asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that officers from his Department seized off Sherkin Island fishing gear and catch from a person (name supplied) from Cork; if he has examined this case; and if in view of the extenuating circumstances he will intervene and release the equipment and catch involved.

I am aware from the Cork Board of Fishery Conservators that a seizure of gear and catch was recently made by the board's protection staff off Sherkin Island.

As regards the latter part of the question, I understand that the board are at present considering what further action is to be taken and I am awaiting their report.
