Motorcycle front mudguard number plates
The Minister is considering whether to change the regulation requiring metal plates on motorcycle front mudguards, which may endanger pedestrians and riders, and hopes to decide soon.
asked the Minister for Local Government if and when he intends to dispense with the regulation requiring a metal number plate to be affixed to the top of front mudguards of motor cycles since it poses a serious hazard to passing pedestrians as well as to the riders in an accident situation.

The matter raised by the Deputy has been under examination in my Department involving consultation with other relevant authorities. I am at present considering the results of this examination and if, as a consequence, the position warrants a modification of the existing regulations, I shall proceed to do so. I hope to reach an early decision.
