Wildlife section's departmental responsibility

Summary

O'Leary questioned the transfer of the conservation and wildlife section to Fisheries and whether it was the right department. Donegan said he was responsible for fisheries, forestry and wildlife; the remaining questions were deferred, followed by brief procedural exchanges.

John O'Leary Mr. J. O'Leary Fianna Fáil

Would the Minister give the reason behind transferring the conservation and wildlife section of the Department of Lands to the Department of Fisheries?

Comment on this

I do not think there is any cross-problem there. The Act only became law—with the help of Deputy Tunney, who was very understanding—on 22nd December last and we are in the process of producing this council. We are good, but we are not exactly God Almighty.

John O'Leary Mr. J. O'Leary Fianna Fáil

My question was: did the Minister agree that the Department of Fisheries was the right Department for the conservation and wildlife section of the Department of Lands?

Comment on this

I am charged with responsibility for fisheries, forestry and wildlife.

Order. I am calling the next business.

Comment on this

That is because the Deputies are over there and we are over here.
