Offaly group water scheme problems

Summary

The Minister disputed that no action had been taken: the county council was asked to investigate blockages in the Killurine system and water quality from a possible supplementary source. The Department awaits the council’s report and estimate before proceeding.

asked the Minister for Local Government why his Department have taken no action to provide the additional water for the Cloneygowan, Killeigh and Killurine group water scheme, County Offaly, promised in the departmental letter to the group trustees on 20th October, 1976.

asked the Minister for Local Government the steps his Department proposes to take to improve the group water scheme in Killeigh and Killurine, County Offaly, which is very unsatisfactory; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Comment on this

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 16 and 17 together.

Deputy Lalor's question mis-states the position. As indicated in my Department's letter of 20th October, 1976, to the group trustees, Offaly County Council were asked to investigate blockages in the Killurine system and to arrange to have the question of the quality of the water from a possible supplementary source investigated. I understand that the county council have this work in hands. As soon as a full report and estimate are received from them, my Department will be in a position to deal with the matter further.

Questions Nos. 18 and 19 postponed.
