Potato processing at Labbadish

Summary

Ceimicí Teoranta is prepared to process potatoes at Labbadish if price and supply terms are agreed, and discussions with farmers’ organisations continue. The Minister said pricing is for the Agriculture Department and the company; a member warned that farmers face ruin.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if he will make a statement on the possibility that Ceimicí Teoranta will open one of its factories for potato processing into alcohol, thereby helping to relieve the serious market situation faced by producers at present.

Thomas J. Fitzpatrick Mr. T. J. Fitzpatrick Fine Gael

(Cavan-Monaghan): Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that last week the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, while answering a similar question, said that the price was a matter between the farmers and the company? The farmers will go to the wall.
