Anonymity for rape victims

Summary

The Minister said no legislation guarantees rape victims’ anonymity, though reports generally withhold their names, and he would keep the need for legislation under review.

asked the Minister for Justice whether there is provision at present to provide for the anonymity of rape victims; and, if not, if he will initiate measures to this effect.

Comment on this

There is no legislation providing for the anonymity of rape victims. The current general practice in reporting such cases is to withhold the names of the victims. I propose, however, to keep under review the need for legislation in this area.
