Health Education Bureau funding

Summary

The Bureau received £300,000, or 0.1% of non-capital health expenditure; a public-service recruitment ban constrained its effectiveness. The Minister confirmed he would seek close to £1 million, while noting the amount obtained might fall short.

asked the Minister for Health the amount allocated to the Health Education Bureau in the last year; the amount this represents as a percentage of total health expenditure for that year; and whether he is satisfied that this allocation is sufficient to meet the needs of this body.

Comment on this

The amount allocated to the Health Education Bureau last year was £300,000, which represented 0.1 per cent of total non-capital health expenditure in that year. The amount allocated enabled the bureau to extend their activities but the bar on recruitment to the public service which operated throughout 1976 constituted a constraint on the bureau's general effectiveness.

Is it the Minister's intention to seek considerably increased funds for this?

Close on £1 million?

Comment on this

The answer is in the affirmative. Of course you do not always get what you seek in this business.

With the Minister's persuasive powers, I think he will be successful.
