Coarse Grains Storage

Summary

The Minister said no coarse-grain surplus is expected and estimated commercial storage, alongside on-farm capacity, will be adequate for next year’s harvest.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, based on last year's usage, there is a surplus of coarse grains in the 12 months up to harvest 1978; if he has any steps under consideration to ensure that storage will be available for all the produce of next year's harvest.

James M. Gibbons Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Gibbons) Fianna Fáil

On the basis of total usage of coarse grains for animal feeding last year and the estimated home production of coarse grains this year a surplus situation does not exist. Apart from on-farm storage the commercial storage in the country available for home-grown grain is estimated at 1.4 million tonnes. This is expected to be adequate for next year's harvest.
