Planned Labour Legislation

Summary

The Minister listed three Bills planned before the summer recess and two under consideration for later; he clarified that the Truck Acts concern payment by cheque or cash and confirmed planned workplace-safety legislation.

Jim Mitchell Mr. Mitchell Fine Gael

asked the Minister for Labour the legislation, if any, he proposes to introduce before the summer recess; and the further plans for legislation that he is considering.

Garrett Fitzgerald Mr. G. Fitzgerald Fine Gael

I expect to introduce the following items of legislation before the summer recess:

1. Safety in Industry Bill.

2. Amendment of the Truck Acts, 1831-1896.

3. Safety, Health and Welfare (Off-shore Installations) Bill.

I am also considering the introduction of two Bills later this year dealing, respectively, with the protection of employees' rights in business transfers and amendment of the Redundancy Payments Acts, 1967 to 1973.

Has that anything to do with the tachographs?

No, for the Deputy's information, it is the payment by cheque, or by cash.

Did I understand the Minister to say that, in the legislation contemplated, he does have material relating to improving the safety aspect of work?
