Housing bonds linked to building costs

Summary

Kelly proposed housing bonds indexed to house-building costs to reduce reliance on publicly financed housing; Molloy supported examining the idea if Kelly provided details.

asked the Minister for Economic Planning and Development whether he favours as an inducement towards lessening dependence on publicly-financed housing, a special savings scheme of housing bonds in which the repayment of capital and interest would also be linked to an index of house-building costs.

Comment on this

I would be in favour in principle of any scheme which would lessen dependence on publicly-financed housing. If the Deputy will supply details of the scheme which he has in mind, I will be glad to have the matter examined.
