Effectiveness of the buy Irish campaign

Summary

Byrne questioned whether import figures showed the campaign was ineffective. Lalor noted textile imports had fallen in 1977 compared with 1976, while Barry and Harte challenged the campaign’s effectiveness.

Are the figures the Minister of State has given an indication that the Government's campaign to buy Irish has not been as effective as the Government hoped it would be?

What campaign?

I have just said that the imports of textiles in 1977 were less than in 1976. We have not got the figures for 1978.

Does this mean the policy now is "bye bye" Irish?

Comment on this

The Deputy would be the best enunciator of that policy.

A clever remark.
