Unemployment data in the census
Mitchell presses the Government to use the census to address scarce unemployment statistics and asks why it will not collect full employment details. Lalor criticises the previous Government for missing the 1976 census; the Chair moves to the next question.
Is the Minister of State aware of comments by the Minister for Economic Planning and Development that the statistics on unemployment are very scarce? Would the Minister therefore take this opportunity to establish the full extent of unemployment and underemployment?
Comment on this
The Deputy is making a case. We have been critical of the Deputy's party for not fulfilling their obligation in Government to have a census in 1976.

While accepting the Minister's criticism, why does he not correct the omission and get the full details on unemployment?
