Withdrawal of supplementary allowances

Summary

Bermingham asked about Kildare pensioners whose living-alone or over-80 allowance led to their supplementary allowance being withdrawn. Haughey was unaware of the cases and offered to arrange an investigation if given details.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that in a number of cases in County Kildare the supplementary allowance being paid to old age pensioners living alone has been withdrawn by the health board in cases where the £1 extra allowance for living alone or the £1 extra allowance to persons over eighty years of age has been added to their pensions, and if he will take steps to have these supplementary allowances restored.

Comment on this

I am not aware of the cases referred to by the Deputy. If, however, he provides me with further details of the cases involved, I will arrange to have the matter investigated by the Eastern Health Board.
