Garda equipment funding and armed robberies

Summary

Mr. O’Keeffe asked whether real-terms reductions in Garda equipment funding could hinder efforts to restrain armed robberies. The Chair ruled the supplementary question irrelevant to the question being answered and said it was a separate matter.

Jim O'Keeffe Mr. O'Keeffe Fine Gael

I will take that as consent. Does the Minister think it is proper, from the point of view of trying to restrain armed robberies, to reduce in real terms the amount of money made available to the Garda Síochána for equipment? I have in mind the 1977 figures voted for equipment.

Can I have an answer to my supplementary question which relates to the amount voted for equipment and armed robberies?

That is a separate question. Would the Deputy please co-operate with the Chair?
