asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry why the Screebe Fishery was not acquired by the State when it recently came on the market.

The acquisition of the Screebe fishery was considered by my Department but, on the grounds that its value for the purpose of scientific research or for the better management of the fisheries generally of the area was limited, I was not prepared to enter into negotiations for the purchase of the fishery.
