Northern counties’ seabed status

Summary

Harte questioned whether the seabed off Derry, Antrim and Down should receive the same attention as Rockall and challenged the ruling that his question was irrelevant. O’Kennedy said the matter had nothing to do with Rockall.

If the Minister considers that the ownership of Rockall which surrounds the sea-bed is important to this State would he not consider it equally important to consider the sea-bed of Derry, Antrim and Down?

Joseph Brennan An Ceann Comhairle Fianna Fáil

That is not a relevant question. It is not in order because it is calculated to lead to argument.

Comment on this

Why is it not in order? Has the Minister now accepted, as spokesman for the Government, that the sea-bed surrounding Derry, Antrim and Down is not part of this country?

Comment on this

That has nothing to do with Rockall.

For a party of Republicans it must be spelled with a very small "r".

The Deputy is becoming very Republican this weather.
