Post-primary teachers' in-service allowances

Summary

The Minister said allowances do not cover all costs, noted their 1979 increase, and promised a further review before 1980 courses.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the inadequacy of the travel and subsistence allowances, though recently increased, payable to post-primary teachers in respect of attendance at in-service courses; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Comment on this

These allowances are not intended to cover the entire costs incurred by teachers attending in-service courses. While the rates payable have been increased by at least 50 per cent in each case for the 1979 courses, I have arranged that they should be again reviewed before the beginning of the 1980 courses.
