Future of Rural Cottage Hospitals

Summary

Walsh asked about plans for rural cottage hospitals; Haughey said smaller district and voluntary hospitals would continue supplementing acute hospitals’ specialist services.

Joe Walsh Mr. J. Walsh Fianna Fáil

asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, for the future of the cottage hospitals in rural areas.

Comment on this

I presume that the Deputy's question relates to the smaller health board district hospitals and to a number of small local voluntary hospitals.

I would see these hospitals continuing to provide a useful service to the community by supplementing the specialist services provided in the acute hospitals.
