Access to Ballymun families
Dr. Byrne warned that emergency and medical personnel could not reach isolated residents. Haughey said they had ready access, though some tower-block lifts were out of service, causing inconvenience but no immediate danger.
asked the Minister for Health in view of the immediate danger to life caused by the inability of ambulance men, fire brigade personnel, nurses and doctors to gain access to Ballymun satellite town resulting in the isolation of families, young children and elderly persons, the plans, if any, to alleviate the situation.

I have made inquiries in the matter and I am satisfied that the position is not as outlined by the Deputy. Medical, nursing and ambulance personnel have ready access to Ballymun. I understand, however, that some of the lifts in the tower blocks have not been in operation and this has necessitated greater use of the stairs. While this may cause inconvenience I am informed that there is no immediate danger to life as suggested by the Deputy.
