Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - RTE Radio 1.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the plans, if any, for making RTE Radio 1 available throughout the day on VHF, in view of the fact that during the early afternoon and evening RTE Radio 1 is only available from the Tullamore Medium Wave transmitter, making it virtually impossible to listen to the programmes being transmitted due to electrical interference in urban areas.

Tom J. Fitzpatrick Minister of State at the Department of Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. T.J. Fitzpatrick Fianna Fáil

, Dublin South-Central): RTE do not accept that during the early afternoon and evening it is virtually impossible to listen to RTE Radio 1 on medium wave because of electrical interference in urban areas. Consideration is, however, being given to the question of how best to provide reception of RTE Radio 1 on VHF throughout the day without depriving listeners of reception from RTE Radio 2.
