Ireland–Soviet Union visitor numbers

Summary

The requested figures for Soviet visitors to Ireland were unavailable, partly because many may enter via Britain or on block visas; information on Irish travellers was obtainable through visa applications. The Taoiseach and Dr. FitzGerald briefly exchanged remarks about the decision to open relations.

Can the Minister give any indication as to when the information might be available?

No. Many such visitors come through Britain or could come on a block visa and it is difficult to get the actual number. The Department of Justice have been consulted about the possibility of obtaining information on visa applications.
