Appointments to the Taoiseach’s Department
Flanagan asked for details of appointments, posts, salaries and whether appointees came from the public service. The Taoiseach said he would circulate the particulars, noting most appointments resulted from staff transfers; he said 28 came from the former Department of Economic Planning and Development.
asked the Taoiseach the appointments made by him to his Department since his appointment as a member of Government, the names of those appointed, the nature of each post and salary attached thereto and if such appointments have been made from within the public service or elsewhere.
Comment on this
With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report a statement giving the particulars requested. The majority of the appointments are as a result of the transfer of staff from the former Department of Economic Planning and Development and also staff transfers consequent on the assumption by my Department of responsibility for the National Board for Science and Technology and the National Economic and Social Council.
Following is the statement:
Appointments made in the Department of the Taoiseach since 11 December, 1979.
Notes:
1. Appointments made after 11 December to fill normal vacancies arising in posts which were established in the Department prior to that date are not included.
2. All of the appointments included in the foregoing statement were made from within the public service with the following exceptions:—
(a) Personal Secretary to the Taoiseach (N. Turner)—appointed in the public interest under the Civil Service Commissioners Act, 1956, and
(b) Press Officer in the Government Information Services (N. Donnelly)—appointed on a contract basis.
3. The salaries for the foregoing posts are those applicable in the Civil Service generally for the grades specified.
