Advice on Northern Ireland and Palestine

Summary

Harte asked whether the Department had an official advising the Minister on Northern Ireland; Lenihan said this was covered by ordinary departmental staffing. Harte questioned the quality of advice by comparison with the Palestinian issue, prompting a dismissive interjection from Allen.

I should like to know if the Minister has anybody in his Department to advise him on affairs in Northern Ireland.

Comment on this

That is part of the ordinary staffing of my Department.

Does he keep the Minister better advised on that situation than he does in relation to the Palestinian question?

Comment on this

If we employed the Deputy he would make a hames of it.
