Telephone installation delays

Summary

The Minister attributed delays to shortages of buildings, plant and staff, while saying there was no general delay once applicants completed agreements and paid charges; Mr. White disputed this.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in the installation of telephones particularly in cases where the deposit has been paid.

Comment on this

The basic reason for the delay in meeting telephone applications is that the resources of buildings, plant and staff necessary to meet the greatly increased demand in recent years are not yet available. However, there is no general delay in installing telephones after applicants have completed agreements and paid the necessary advance charges.
