Norwegian fishing arrangements

Summary

White asked about Norwegian grants for agreements to fish in EEC waters with local participation and reports that Irish fishermen were offered shares in Norwegian vessels. Power was unaware of either matter, but undertook to investigate the reported approaches.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he is aware that Norwegian fishing vessels have been offered a grant by the Norwegian Government if they can arrange agreements to fish in EEC waters with native participation and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Comment on this

I am not aware of any such grant scheme and I have, therefore, no statement to make in the matter.

Comment on this

Is the Minister aware that certain Irish fishermen have been approached about taking part shares in Norwegian vessels? What does the Minister think of that?

Comment on this

I am not so aware. However, I will have the matter investigated and will let the Deputy know the result.

Questions Nos. 16 and 17 postponed.
