Salmon transport costs to Billingsgate
Deasy asked whether the Minister would reduce the cost of transporting salmon to London. Reynolds said competition on cross-Channel routes had kept freight-rate increases below consumer-price inflation despite rising fuel costs.
asked the Minister for Transport if he will take steps to reduce the increased cost of the transport of salmon from Cork and other centres to the Billingsgate Market, London.

I have no evidence to support the view that the level of freight rates on cross-Channel routes is excessive. On the contrary, the information which I have indicates that the intensive competition on these routes has kept increases in freight rates generally at a level lower than increases in the consumer price index despite rising fuel prices.
