Teacher-parent meetings during school hours

Summary

The Minister said arrangements are for school authorities and are not prescribed by his Department. He had no official knowledge of meetings being held during school hours and disrupting classes.

Edward Collins Mr. E. Collins Fine Gael

asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the holding of teacher-parent meetings in school hours and if he intends to change the present arrangements.

Comment on this

The making of arrangements for teacher-parent meetings is primarily a matter for school authorities, and my Department has not prescribed any regulations in that regard. I am not generally made aware of the arrangements which may apply in the case of an individual school.

Is the Minister aware of the situation where teacher-parent meetings are held within school hours and classes have to be postponed, adjourned or abandoned? Is he in favour of the system where these teacher-parent meetings are carried on in school hours?

Comment on this

No, I am not so aware. I have no official knowledge of this being the case.
