Petrol tanker dispute costs
The Minister said Gardaí performed only their normal law-and-order duties, so recouping those costs did not arise. The Army’s costs were being examined, but the matter was not his responsibility.
asked the Minister for Justice the total cost to public funds of the Garda intervention in the petrol tanker dispute; and whether he intends recouping this money from the oil companies.
Comment on this
: There was no Garda intervention in this dispute. The only Garda role in the matter was the normal one of maintaining law and order and in the circumstances the question of recouping the cost of the duties involved does not arise.
Comment on this
: At the risk of being told that this is a separate question, would it be fair to ask the Minister if there is any proposal for endeavouring to recoup the money involved by way of the cost to public funds of the Army intervention in the dispute?
Comment on this
: I understand that that position is being examined. However, the question is not one for me.
