CIE bus roadworthiness and roof strength

Summary

The Minister said existing regulations ensure bus stability and prevent overturning, and he has no immediate plans to require stronger roofs.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is satisfied with the current roadworthiness regulations as applied to CIE buses; and if the danger of such vehicles overturning requires that roofs be strengthened.

Comment on this

The current roadworthiness regulations as applied to CIE and other buses are contained in the Road Traffic (Construction Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 made under the Road Traffic Act, 1961. I am advised that these regulations complied with will ensure the stability of buses on the road and prevent the danger of overturning. I have no immediate proposals to amend these regulations in relation to the strengthening of the roofs of buses.
