asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that no cattle headage payments have been paid to date in the Sligo-Leitrim Constituency; and if he will have these grants paid immediately so that the hard pressed farmers may have their money before Christmas.

Following clearance by the EEC, payment of the increased grants announced on 12 September under the 1980 cattle headage schemes in the disadvantaged areas commenced on 28 November. Of 10,200 applications received in Sligo-Leitrim, about 8,000 will receive their grants before Christmas; the remaining herdowners whose applications are found to be in order will be paid as early as possible in the new year.
