New concert hall management and bookings

Summary

The Taoiseach said the Earlsfort Terrace concert hall was expected to open the following May at a cost of about £3 million, with a manager selected and a management board planned. FitzGerald argued that the late arrangements had jeopardised early bookings; the Taoiseach defended the timing of establishing the board and said the manager’s selection had been reported in the press.

asked the Taoiseach when the new concert hall in Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin, will be ready; and its total cost.

Comment on this

The concert hall is expected to be ready next May, and the total cost is expected to be in the region of £3 million.

What arrangements have been made for the management of the concert hall? Is the Taoiseach aware that in the case of a concert hall bookings are normally taken about two years in advance and that the absence of any authority with whom to make bookings is giving rise to very serious problems as there are now only six months until the concert hall is due to be opened?

Comment on this

A manager has been recruited and we hope shortly to establish a board of management for the concert hall.

Would the Taoiseach accept that failure to do this two years in advance and leaving it to within six months of opening has prejudiced the success of the concert hall in the early stages?

Comment on this

I should not like to contemplate a board of management being set up two years in advance of opening.

Comment on this

How else could bookings be made? What arrangements have been made for management and bookings over the past two years?

Comment on this

A manager has been selected.
