Community school capital contributions

Summary

Collins asked whether the 5 per cent capital contribution would be required. Wilson said vocational education committees’ contribution remains 5 per cent, with funding governed by the Vocational Education Act, 1930.

Edward Collins Mr. E. Collins Fine Gael

asked the Minister for Education if he will proceed with the demand for a 5 per cent contribution to the capital costs of building community schools and community colleges; if he will now state that such a contribution will not be necessary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Comment on this

With regard to the question of local contribution to be provided in the case of community schools by religious authorities participating in the management of the schools, the position is as stated in my reply to Question No. 17 in the Official Report of 3 June 1980. The contribution from the vocational education committee is 5 per cent.

Funds for the building of schools administered by vocational education committees are made available in accordance with the provisions of the Vocational Education Act, 1930.
