Pension fund investment rules
Quinn asked whether pension fund regulations would be amended to broaden investment in the Irish economy. Fitzgerald said there was no evidence existing law constrained investment and no amendments were planned; the Chair then moved to written questions.
asked the Minister for Finance if he proposes to introduce amendments to the legislation governing the responsibilities of and constraints on trustees of pension funds and pension fund managers with a view to making such funds available for a wider range of investment opportunities and projects in the Irish economy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Comment on this
I have no evidence to support the view that investment by pension fund trustees and managers in the Irish economy is being constrained by existing law in this area. Consequently I do not propose to introduce amending legislation.
