The Road Traffic (Signs) (Amendment) Regulations, 1970, made under section 95 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, as amended by the Road Traffic Act, 1968, provide that on informative traffic signs in Gaeltacht areas the names of places in such areas shall be shown in Irish only.
