Social Welfare Department telephone access

Summary

Deasy complained that the Department’s telephone number went unanswered. Woods said 40 lines were operating but were inadequate, and a larger telephone system was being installed.

——not really playing the game when he put down so many questions. If we all let these questions run there would be hundreds on the Order Paper today. There are 40 lines but they are not adequate and we have had underway for some time past the installation of a totally new and enlarged PABX system. It is a question of when that can be completed. There are 40 lines in operation.
