Written Answers. - Naval Service Ship Replacement.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will have experts examine the Norwegian Horten class auxiliary vessel with a view to having a similar vessel built here to replace L.E. Setanta; if he accepts that a vessel with substantial accommodation is required both for training and for auxiliary duties; and if he considers that such a vessel could be built here in view of our successful adaptation of other Norwegian designs.

Sylvester Barrett Minister for Defence (Mr. Barrett) Fianna Fáil

As my predecessor stated in the House on 19 June 1980, it is not proposed to acquire another ship similar to L.E. Setanta. The training of Naval Service personnel at sea is carried out on the minesweepers and patrol vessels.
