asked the Minister for Justice the number of cars stolen in Cork city in (a) the last six months, and (b) 1978, 1979 and 1980; and if he has under consideration any new measures to combat the growing menace of stolen cars being driven by unqualified drivers with consequent danger to the general public there.

Statistics of larcenies and of unauthorised taking of motor cars in Cork city are as follows:

Crime statistics for 1980 are not yet completed. They are expected to be completed within the next month or two.

The problem in relation to motor cars is being kept constantly under review by the Garda and every effort is made by mobile and foot patrols to minimise this type of crime.
