Ring Gaeltacht industrial employment
The Ring Gaeltacht had four full-time workers in three small industries at the end of 1980. The Minister said the Authority was promoting small industries because attracting a large employer was difficult, and was preparing a site for another prefabricated factory; Deasy stressed that residents preferred local work.
asked the Minister for the Gaeltacht the number of people employed in industrial projects in the Ring Gaeltacht, County Waterford; the number of such projects; the efforts being made by her Department to improve the position; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Tuigim ó Údarás na Gaeltachta go raibh ceathrar ag obair go lánaimseartha ar 31 Nollaig 1980 i nGaeltacht na Rinne i dtrí mhiontionscal a fuair cúnamh ó Ghaeltarra Éireann nó ón Údarás. Tá gach iarracht á déanamh ag an Údarás chun tuilleadh fostaíochta a chur ar fáil sa cheantar sin.

Is the Minister aware that there are four people working in three industries in the Ring Gaeltacht?

An Fáth go bhfuil an uimhir comh beag — agus ceapaim go dtuigeann an Teachta Deasy é sin — ná go mbíonn an-tarraingt ar oibrithe ó Ghaeltacht na Rinne i dtreo bailte mar Dhún Garbháin agus Cathair Phort Láirge féin, agus mar sin go mbeadh sé fíor dheachair ar an Údarás tionscal mór a mhealladh isteach i nGaeltacht na Rinne. Mar sin caithfidh siad a bheith ag brath ar mhiontionscail le obair a chur ar fáil.

I asked the Minister what effort she is making to improve the position? Could I have a reply to that question?

Tá chuile iarracht á déanamh ag an Údarás iad féin, siad san atá ag deileáil le forbairt tionsclaíochta sna ceantracha Ghaeltachta, le miontionscail a chur chun cinn san áit, mar go mheadh sé rí-dheachair mórthionscal no tionscal a chuirfeadh go leor fostaíochta ar fáil sa cheantar a thabhairt isteach i nGaeltacht na Rinne de bharr go bhfuil oiread sin tarraingt ag oibrithe Ghaeltacht na Rinne ar bhailte móra cosúil le Dún Garbhán.

Is the Minister aware that people in the Ring Gaeltacht prefer to work in their own neighbourhood rather than have to go to Dungarvan town?
