Finn Valley flooding and rates relief

Summary

Blaney asked for rates abatement on flood-prone land in the Finn Valley. Fahey said individual abatements are for the local authority, which expects the holding may qualify for 50% rates relief in 1981.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that some 30 acres of the Finn Valley in County Donegal is subject to constant flooding; and whether, in view of the very high rates paid on this land, he will arrange for an abatement of the rates on such lands.

Comment on this

A decision to grant abatement of rates in an individual case is a matter for the local authority. It is understood from the local authority that the land which it is believed the Deputy has in mind forms part of a holding which under the new relief measures announced in the budget is likely to qualify for 50 per cent rates relief in 1981.
