Private notice question on pay proposals

Summary

Fitzgerald challenged the refusal of an urgent question on Government pay proposals following ICTU and FUE developments. The Ceann Comhairle said the matter could be raised as a question or on the adjournment on Tuesday.

I submitted a special notice question on the Government's proposals on pay in view of the outcome of the ICTU delegate conference this morning and the statement earlier in the week by the FUE in regard to their meeting. I understand the question is not being allowed and I fail to understand why such an urgent matter of national importance cannot be allowed by way of Private Notice Question.

I am sorry but I do not have to give a reason for that. The matter is an on going one and the Deputy can put it down for answer on Tuesday next. We cannot discuss it now.

Without going any deeper into the question, do I have permission to raise it on the adjournment on Tuesday next?

The Deputy can put it down as a question on the adjournment.
