asked the Minister for Finance the up-to-date position regarding the proposed new Garda station at Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim.

A tender was accepted on 11 August 1981 for the erection of a new Garda district headquarters at Carrick-on-Shannon.

Subsequently the need for extra Garda accommodation necessitated some revision of the plans and resubmission to the planning authority. As soon as this is cleared, work on the project will commence.

Will the Minister of State tell the House when the plans were resubmitted to Leitrim County Council?

I have not that information. A site for a new Garda district headquarters at Carrick-on-Shannon was acquired and tenders in respect of this headquarters were received on 29 January 1981. Following examination of the tenders sanction in respect of the expenditure was obtained from the Department of Finance. A tender was accepted on 11 August 1981. It then transpired that a recent reorganisation of the Garda services in Carrick-on-Shannon necessitated the provision of certain essential extra accommodation that was not foreseen when planning took place. The contract was placed in August 1981 and this matter came to our notice at that time.

I asked the Minister of State if his Department had resubmitted their adjusted plans to Leitrim County Council for planning permission. I asked a direct question and I want a direct answer, yes or no.

I have not that information.

Is the Minister of State aware that this new proposed Garda facility at Carrick-on-Shannon is delaying the provision of a ring road in the town and that the town is completely congested every Friday evening? The Office of Public Works have not provided a new barracks so that the old barracks could be demolished.

There will be no delay in the submission of plans.

Will the Minister of State give a guarantee that they will be submitted within a week or a year?

I cannot give any such guarantee but I can assure the Deputy there will be no undue delay.
