The Minister reported staffing totals of 60,663 on 1 July and 60,683 on 1 October 1981, with 3,881 vacancies left unfilled under the embargo.

asked the Minister for the Public Service (a) the number of non-industrial civil servants employed on 1 July 1981 (b) the number on 1 October 1981 (c) the number of posts vacant on 1 July 1981 and (d) the number of such posts not filled as a result of the Government embargo of 21 July 1981.
