Tachograph derogation

Summary

Reynolds asked whether the Minister had sought a further year’s derogation from tachograph requirements. The Minister said implementation had to proceed, while the Chair ruled the question outside the original question; Reynolds concluded that no approach had been made.

The Minister was absent last week when we tried to get information in relation to the introduction of the tachograph on 1 December. Could the Minister now tell the House if he has made any representations to have a derogation for a further year in relation to the tachograph?

Comment on this

The Deputy is well aware of the history in regard to the implementation of the tachograph and that considerable postponements and derogations were afforded this country. He must be equally well aware that the matter is now at the stage where it has to be implemented.

The question I asked the Minister is: did he make any approaches for a derogation for a further year? Would the Minister answer yes or no?

Comment on this

As the Deputy is aware, that is for the Minister——

That does not arise under this question.

——for Labour also.

So the Minister did nothing about it.
