asked the Minister for Health if she is aware of the statement by the Director of the Drug Advisory Treatment Centre, Jervis Street Hospital, Dublin, to the effect that to date the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977, has not been actively implemented; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen the statement to which the Deputy refers but it is not clear from the report what particular aspects of the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977, the director had in mind. The Act became fully operative on 1 May 1979. My Department are currently reviewing the operation of the Act, in consultation with the Department of Justice and the Garda.
