Identifying Locally Orientated Schools

Summary

The Minister said schools are being identified by examining relevant circumstances, including how many pupils come from the local area. Asked whether funding would constrain the commission’s type and composition, he referred to an advertisement placed by his predecessor.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state how "locally orientated schools" are defined for the purposes of implementing his commitment to provide free school books.

The schools in question are being identified on the basis of careful investigation by my Department of all relevant circumstances, including the proportion of the total enrolment constituted by pupils from homes in the locality of the school.

Will the Minister accept that the type of commission and their composition will be constrained by the type of financing that will be made available?

I would have thought that the type of commission would be based on the advertisement which my predecessor had inserted in the newspapers.
