asked the Minister for Health if he will give an assurance that medical card-holders will not be deprived of their existing entitlements to the free provision of necessary drugs, medicines and appliances in the context of any attempt to control the cost of drugs to the State.

While I am concerned at the cost of drugs in the health services I intend to ensure that medical card patients will not be deprived of necessary medicines.
