asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any proposals to change the system and methodology of the registration of new cars and motorised vehicles in this country; if he proposes to change the number of local licensing authorities or the numerical system under which car registration numbers are made; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

(Dublin South-East): I have no proposals for amendment of the existing statutory system relating to the registration of new vehicles. Vehicle registration records are now computerised in the interests of the better administration of the system.
