Prompt allocation of available housing

Summary

Kemmy asked whether the Minister would direct authorities to allocate housing promptly when it became available. Connolly said allocation was generally immediate or very quick, while Quinn disputed the Minister’s knowledge; the Chair then called the next question.

When the information sought by Deputy Quinn becomes available to the Minister, will he consider sending a directive to all local authorities to allocate housing and accommodation to people as soon as it becomes available?

Comment on this

If the Deputy is talking about the allocation of local authority housing, as far as I know local authorities and corporations allocate houses immediately, or very quickly, provided everything is in order.

Comment on this

That is as far as the Minister knows. That was the point of my question.

Comment on this

I was a member of a local authority for years and I know the position.

Comment on this

The Minister does not know. He has told us he has not the information.

Comment on this

I resent what the Deputy has said.
