Childers Road completion

Summary

Kemmy sought a completion date for the remaining Childers Road works in Limerick. Connolly said work was underway and funding allocated, but would not predict a completion date; he promised to do what he could to avoid undue delay and said the contract duration was not in his brief.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he proposes to start work on the completion of the Childers road in Limerick.

I understand that work on the remaining section of this road has been in progress for about a year. Road grants in excess of £1.3 million have been allocated to the project, including £400,000 for the current year.

Comment on this

I understand road work is going ahead, but I asked when it would be completed.

Comment on this

I am unable to say when the road will be completed but the Deputy can take it there will be no undue delay. I do not want to give a date which, because of circumstances, might not be complied with.

There are no legal difficulties?

Comment on this

We dealt with that last week.

Comment on this

Would the Minister use his influence to ensure that this work is finished because this is a very important artery road in Limerick?

Comment on this

The Deputy can take it that I will do everything in my power to see that the work goes ahead.

Comment on this

Surely the Minister has information about the duration of the contract in his brief because nobody signs a contract unless the date is specified?

Comment on this

No, that is not in my brief.
