asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why the telephone line of a company (details supplied) at Lucan, County Dublin, was withdrawn and apparently supplied to another company on Friday, 21 May 1982; if he will confirm that the number was subsequently changed with the new company; and when a telephone will be resupplied to the original company.

Service has not been withdrawn. The problem is a fault in the underground cable. Service will be restored as soon as possible but this may take a week or so because of the large number of faults on hands.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will retain the operators' number 10 at Ennistymon, County Clare until such time as all the other areas in County Clare are automatic.

Comment on this
John P. Wilson Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson) Fianna Fáil

Ennistymon manual exchange provides services for subscribers connected to the following exchanges: Ballyvaughan, Bell Harbour, Burrin, Carron, Craggagh, Ennistymon, Kilfenora, Miltown Malbay and Quilty. It will be maintained on a gradually reducing scale until all these exchanges are converted to automatic working. Retention of the manual exchange beyond that would not be warranted.

Service has been restored. As indicated in reply to questions from the Deputy some time ago, special consideration is being given to ways of improving the service in the Clifden charge group which includes Clifden. I hope to be able to advise the Deputy of the outcome of our study later this month.

It has not been possible to provide service so far at the company's new address because of the large volume of engineering work on hands and awaiting attention in the Dublin area.
